US HEALTHCARE SYSTEM

A Russian delegation comprised of 22 leaders of private and public hospitals as well as representatives of regional administrations, attended a seminar on the US healthcare, held in Washington from September 16th through 21st of 2013.

The official part of the study tour began with a reception at D.C. Department of Health. During the reception, a wide range of topics was discussed concerning the overall structure of healthcare and health insurance in US.

A whole day was devoted to the familiarization with the principles and realities of operation of Sibley Hospital - a private nonprofit hospital, partially funded by government through tax exempt status. The guests visited the diagnostic, maternity and pediatric wards as well as the orthopedics department and were introduced to programs for international cooperation.
Delegates were particularly interested to visit the University of Maryland Medical Center which is funded by federal and state governments. Located in Baltimore, it is one of the oldest campuses in the United States; it prepares physicians, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, lawyers, economists and many other professionals. It is also noteworthy that the University of Maryland Medical Center - an integral part of all medical programs of the university, provides all forms of medical care to residents of Baltimore and also highly specialized care throughout the state and neighboring areas. Russian guests visited the emergency room, trauma, orthopedic and dental services, as well as the Department of Organ Transplantation.

At the conclusion of this educational visit, during the celebratory branch, the participants received the very prestigious personalized certificates. The guests lauded practical aspects and the exceptional level of preparedness of the event.
