Construction Innovation. USA Example seminar was held Nov.21-28 in the US and attended by general managers and chief engineers of largest construction companies from Russia and Kazakhstan Republic.

The agenda included presentations on main technologies employed in the US on case studies of Washington and New York construction companies as well as visits to construction sites and commissioned buildings.

In Washington, DC, John Sullivan, Business Development Manager, Autodesk, presented Autodesk solutions for Building Information Modeling (BIM) such as Revit, Navisworks and Civil 3D. Terri Patillo, AIA, Northeast Regional Director for Woodworks, Washington, DC, gave a vivid demonstration and discussion on wood qualities and capabilities for multi-storied building construction, both residential and commercial. David Greenbaum, Vice President, SmithGroupJJR, and representatives of Clark Construction (main contractor) demonstrated BIM capabilities at Museum of the Bible construction site in Washington, DC, showing the video on the future largest in the world museum and explaining during the site visit project specifics, logistics and raw materials sources.

SKANSKA received construction professionals from Russia and Kazakhstan in New York. SKANSKA representatives spoke about the company, types of tenders the company bids for, challenges of working with trade unions and system of air rights acquisition above the buildings in the same area. After the meeting, everyone visited construction sites of St. Nikolas Shrine and 34-storied Marriott hotel for 230 rooms.

The delegation mainly comprised of managers and key staff of Russian and Kazakhstan construction companies. By end of the seminar they thanked the organizers and the hosting parties for practical relevance of all the activities and the opportunities to learn better the modern technologies employed in US by leading construction companies.
